DePuy Orthopedics, a division of Johnson & Johnson, issued a recall of two of its ASR hip replacement systems in August 2010 — the ASR Hip Resurfacing System and the ASR XL Acetabular System. These two defective hip replacement systems have already been implanted in patients. The 2010 DePuy hip replacement recall means that patients who have already undergone one hip replacement surgery must now undergo a “revision.” That is: a second surgery.
